Proposal

Proposal Summary:

Object of this proposal is to supplement the current powerVoting calculation method, ONLY for individuals who deposit liquidity into REG pools. Currently, this only affects approximately one hundred wallets out of the 6,700 that hold REG. Individuals holding REG in their wallets or via the incentive vault are not impacted by this proposal.

The goal of the new calculation method is to reward (through powerVoting) those who contribute most to REG liquidity. The closer the deposits (in REG and/or stablecoin) are to the price, the greater the boost they will receive.

This proposal is the result of development work by RealT and additional work by the dedicated committee on this topic.

Motivation:

The original calculation model has undergone an initial improvement to more strongly incentivize depositing liquidity into REG pools (see RIP18). As a reminder: It is important for the DAO that the REG has significant liquidity in pools so that trading can swap under optimal conditions (i.e., without excessive slippage between the displayed and executed exchange rates).

With v3 pools (with "concentrated liquidity"), it is possible to deposit liquidity within a specific exchange rate range. This feature, combined with the increased boost from RIP18, has led some to deposit far from the price (between 5 and 10 XDAI/REG, for example): They thus benefit from a significant boost to their powerVoting without contributing to the REG's active liquidity. The new calculation method will prevent this type of behavior.

Context:

The calculator is a RealT development used before each vote to update the voting power of each DAO member. To account for the exact positions of deposits in liquidity pools, RealT has enhanced its development to collect the necessary information and enable multiple ways to utilize it.

The public sources are as follows:

  • The calculator code, on the community GitHub repository: https://github.com/RealToken-Community/balance-calculator
  • The branch containing the code for this proposal is: yohann-test-pool-V3-models
  • Detailed documentation (in French) is available in the docs/FR folder
  • A test suite (included in the documentation), with its results, is available in the outDatas folder
  • A runtime environment has been set up by a committee member: it will soon be completed and transferred to the community infrastructure

The Committee tested several calculator options and selected the following parameters:

  • Proximity mode operation, with linear calculation based on tick data.
  • Inactive ranges are permitted and will receive a greater boost the closer they are to the price.
  • Proximity to the price is assessed using 10 segments on either side of the price, each 10% of the price's width.
  • The minimum boost is 1 and the maximum is 10.
  • The RIP18 parameters remain unchanged.

Gradual Transition between RealT and the Community:

  • In the current version, RealT hosts the code on its GitHub repository (and therefore validates the changes), launches the snapshot, publishes the results, and updates the powerVoting tokens.
  • These actions will gradually be taken over by the community and the Committee: the code is now managed on the community GitHub repository (which means the community must ensure there are no vulnerabilities in the proposed changes). The other actions will be gradually taken over.

Implementation steps:

  • The need was identified in early 2025 (https://t.me/powervoting_realtoken_dao/363)
  • @Michael made a modification to the calculator available in May 2025 (https://t.me/powervoting_realtoken_dao/1118)
  • Since then, the Committee has become familiar with the code and has supplemented it: To ensure that all v2 and v3 pools are treated identically, tools have been added to measure the impact of changes and help in choosing the right parameters.
  • This proposal was submitted to the forum in early February.
  • After a 2 week period of discussion (and corrections), it will be put to a vote on Tally.
  • We are aiming for implementation by the end of February 2026.
  • As with RIP18, the Committee will continue to monitor the calculator's operation, especially as it will gradually become more involved. snapshots will be taken, and necessary improvements will be studied.

Team:

  • RealT (@Michael): Designer, Developer, and operator of the computer.
  • The "Voting Power" Committee: Gradual resumption of development, operation, and improvements to the computer (which are subject to a vote). List of members: https://wiki.realtoken.community/fr/DAO/Life/Vote.
  • The DAO: Votes on changes to the code and its parameters. All DAO members can participate in computer improvements. Committee discussions are public (https://t.me/powervoting_realtoken_dao).

Budget:

This proposal has no cost to the community, except for the time it takes to understand it before voting

Roadmap:

  • Preliminary discussion on the proposal: during February,
  • Vote on the proposal: end of February,
  • Gradual transfer of actions taken by RealT to the community: 2026 and beyond...

Objectives:

  • Adapt the calculator to its use and any emerging needs,
  • Use powerVoting to promote actions that benefit the DAO (e.g., providing liquidity).

Key terms:

  • Liquidity pool: A reserve holding REG and a stablecoin, allowing them to be swapped at a specific exchange rate. Users are either depositors (earning fees) or swappers. The reserve is managed automatically: the more funds the reserve holds, the less slippage there is between the displayed and executed exchange rates.
  • Pool v2: Deposits are used for parities ranging from 0 to infinity.
  • Pool v3: Deposits are "concentrated," meaning they are held within a parity range. When the price changes, the range can be either active (price inside the range, and the deposit is then usable) or inactive (price outside the range, and the deposit is then not used).
  • Tick: A way of encoding a value, used on v3 pools (see documentation on GitHub).
  • Vault incentive: A deposit that allows you to lock up REGs to receive incentives (when the program is active).
  • powerVoting: A voting power token, the quantity of which is calculated based on the REGs held by a user. This token is used on Tally to weight your vote in a DAO decision.
  • "powerVoting" Committee: DAO members in charge of studies and proposals on this topic. Created via RIP 7.
  • Snapshot: Collection of REGs owned by each user (regardless of their location).
