**Security Council Election**

You can find the Security Council Elections specification in [Section 4 of the Arbitrum DAO constitution](https://docs.arbitrum.foundation/dao-constitution#section-4-security-council-elections).

An election will be in one of 4 phases:

**Phase 0: Interim period (no election)**

- Live countdown to the next election (phase 1).
- Anyone can click the "start election button" to begin the next election when the countdown has finished.

**Phase 1: Nominee Selection**

- All voters can connect their wallet and view how many votes they can cast during this phase.
- Anyone can register as a contender for the election.
- A list of current "contenders" (potential nominees) and the information includes:
  - Total votes received by a candidate.
  - Contender has moved onto the next stage after successfully receiving 0.2% of votes (supply of votable tokens).
  - Contender has completed the compliance process with the Arbitrum Foundation
- All votes must be cast before the countdown for Phase 1 has finished.

**Phase 2: Grace Period**

- View list of successful nominees.
- Waiting period for the Arbitrum Foundation to complete compliance checks.
- Election completes if there are fewer than 6 successful nominees (and it is up to the Arbitrum Foundation to fill up the remaining seats).

**Phase 3: Member Election**

- There are more than 6 nominees and it is up to voters to pick the 6 nominees who will join the Security Council.
- All voters are encouraged to vote in the first 7 days, otherwise their voting weight will decrease until the election finishes.
- Votes must be cast before the countdown has completed.
